Summer Camp Program

Summer Camp ProgramOur exciting summer day camp program provides summer fun for each age group. Nature walks, sports, music, cooking, water play, science, drama and art activities are planned around age appropriate weekly themes. Recognizing that learning shouldn't stop during the summer, our teachers plan age appropriate enrichment activities throughout the summer. Swimming lessons and supervised swimming are available.

Our summer day camp is open to children of all ages. A sample of the weekly themes for our After School Enrichment Summer Camp Program is listed below.

Week 1 -  Sun and Sand Fun
Students create cover for a summer fun journal.
Learn how to make watermelon popsicles.
Write and produce summer safety ad.
Plan and prepare a picnic at the park.
Beach ball race & limbo dancing.
Paint a summer scene for art gallery.
Tend to our summer garden.

Week 2 - Our Good Earth
Create a paper mache model of the Earth
Research names and facts about continents & oceans.
Conduct a backyard soil comparison experiment.
Tend to our summer garden.
Perform experiment to recycle paper.
Discuss a way our class could recycle paper.
Tour & hike at Harbison Forest Education Center.
Week 3 - Botanical Wonders
Tend to our summer garden, measure growth.
Tour local farm.
Perform experiment to observe hidden leaf colors.
Use oil pastels to illustrate a plant you like.
Create a kitchen garden for our classroom.
Learn how to prepare vegetables for meals.
Learn how to make a fruit salad.
Make a Father's Day gift.

Week 4 - All Around Athletes
Learn the rules for T- ball. Practice for a game.
Visit park for a game of T-ball.
Teach friends jump rope games.
Discuss what good sportsmanship means.
Learn how to play croquet.
Set up and play frisbee golf course.
Practice 100 yard dash and relay races.
Give a sportsmanship award to a classmate.
Week 5 - Independent Spirit
Class meeting to discuss what independence means.
Learn and sing the Star Spangled Banner.
Visit the library to get books about the U.S.
Research the history and design of the US flag.
Create a red, white and blue art display for our room.
Learn how to make a patriotic dessert for our family.
Sack race and egg relay races.
Illustrate what you like about the United States.

Week 6 - The Science Behind It
Create your own magnet.
Use a magnet to determine North and South.
Create dancing cereal with static electricity.
Tour State Museum Interactive Science Exhibits.
Examine flashlight to learn how it works.
Colored light experiment to create white light.
Create your own color changer.
Learn how to make plastic.
Week 7 - Insect Explorations
Take an insect walk to identify insects.
Class Visit from Insect expert.
Set up an ant farm for our class.
Collect insects to observe during the week.
Choose an insect to research.
Paint a picture of the insect you studied for gallery.
Create your own insect. Illustrate and name it.
Perform an insect symphony.

Week 8 - Safari Fun
Select an animal to research.
Illustrate the habitat of your animal.
Create an animal mask for a safari party.
Make a pin the tail on the Zebra for our safari party.
Create a clay model of our safari animal.
Tour Riverbanks Zoo to locate our safari animal.
Play Sharks & Minnows in the pool.

Week 9 - Keeping It Cool!
Math fact Snowball Game.
Design a pair of sunglasses.
Field trip to see summer movie.
Create an ice cream float.
Make cool jello treats.
Water balloon toss.
Beach ball keep-away in the pool.
Class project: Set up a lemonade stand.

Week 10 - It's Show Time!
Plan a puppet show for the 4's & 5's.
Create set for our puppet show.
Make puppets & props for show.
Visit Columbia Marionette Theater.
Video tape our puppet show.
Create a playbill for our puppet show.
Silly singing with puppets.
Fence painting with spray bottle paints.

Week 11 - Discover South Carolina!
Look over travel brochures for a place to visit in SC.
Locate your dream destination on map.
Illustrate a special fact about your dream destination.
Make memory book about our summer activities.
Design a postcard you might send to a loved one.
Explore the cost of the trip.
Paint a picture of what you think you will see.
Suitcase relay race.
Visit airport to learn about air travel.
Week 12 - Starting the Year Off Right!
Visit each school to orient students to pick-up routine.
Paint a picture of a favorite summer memory.
Design our own cubby tags.
Make school spirit banners for our classroom.
Bake brownies for snack.
Create a photo display of our class and families.
Write or dictate a student bio for your photo.
